Tanning Tips
Thank you for choosing Body & Sol TANspa! We want to help you achieve the best tan possible while teaching you how to avoid sunburn and over exposure, both outdoors in the sunshine and indoors in our salon. Following these helpful tips will ensure your tanning success.
Protect Your Eyes
Whether tanning indoors or outdoors, eyelids do not provide adequate protection from ultraviolet light. Individuals who tan without eye protection risk eye damage, including retinal burns, and cataracts. Indoor tanners should always wear protective goggles. Sunglasses or towels will not offer enough protection from indoor equipment.
Protect Your Skin
Since some cosmetic ingredients in makeup and fragrances can make the skin more susceptible to burning, indoor tanning formulas should be applied to clean skin. In addition, each tanner should use recommended indoor tanning lotion each time they tan, beginning with the very first session. Dry, neglected skin reflects UV light, not allowing it to tan underneath. It also exfoliates faster, causing your tan to fade more quickly. Also, be sure to moisturize your skin after tanning. Several lotion manufacturers provide a moisturizer in their product lines. Revitalize your skin by keeping it hydrated. Always use recommended indoor tanning lotions. Moist skin tans the best. This increases your tanning results dramatically and cares for your skin by helping it retain vital moisture lost in the tanning process. Let us help you find the best lotion that works for you.
Use A Lotion / Accelerator
The use indoor tanning products will maximize your tanning experience. The following are reasons why lotions will help with your tan:
- They supply the skin with essential nutrients necessary for a tan and help moisturize the skin to keep it looking young and healthy.
- Moist skin tans more quickly and efficiently than dry skin, resulting in a better tan in fewer visits.
- Indoor tanning products help counteract the drying effects of heat and light associated with tanning (moisturized skin is healthier).
- Active ingredients supplement the skin's cells with the same proteins that enhance the tanning process naturally.
- Specially formulated indoor tanning lotions help your tan last by retaining ultraviolet induced melanin longer.
- The latest lotion technology includes antioxidants that help prevent fine lines and wrinkles.
Protect Sensitive Areas
Areas not normally exposed to UV light, such as underarms, back of legs, buttocks, breasts, etc., can burn from the same light intensity that only tans the rest of your body. These sensitive areas should be gradually exposed to UV light. Suggestions are that you cover these areas half way through tanning the first three or four times you tan. Take it slow. Tanning is not a race! Overexposure will hinder the results you want, so exercise moderation. An extra towel will be provided on request.
Protect Your Lips
Lips cannot produce melanin; they are therefore at risk to burn. An SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of at least 20 will help in protecting this area.
